Visit San Giorgio

The source of this uniform light is the thermal windows , which are semicircular and divided vertically into three parts, just as they were in the Roman thermal baths. They surround both the central nave and the aisles.
The barrel vault of the principal nave has a smooth, snow white surface. On the aisle vaults, however, the cross vaults are traced; surrounding them, the thermal windows create alternating closed and open spaces and produce various luminous rhythms.
The nave of San Giorgio is dominated by the stage-like construction of the presbytery and choir. The presbytery is divided from the transept by three steps and from the choir by four steps and four columns. The organ, which rests on top was added in the 17th century. The resulting luminous effect produces a type of halo which encircles the main altar.
